The New Bromantics | Movember
1×7’ documentary
Director: Tom Tennant
Role: Executive Producer, Producer
The New Bromantics is a short film from Movember exploring how male friendship has changed over the past century, and what that means for men’s health today. Created and directed by BAFTA Cymru-winning filmmaker Tom Tennant and executive produced by Jordan Stephens, it brings together Jordan, his Rizzle Kicks bandmate Harley Sulé and real-life friends from across the UK to recreate historical photographs of men showing affection. Their funny, moving and sometimes awkward reactions open up candid conversations about friendship, intimacy and the unwritten rules of masculinity.
The film takes a joyful, hopeful approach to a serious subject: the importance of connection in men’s lives. Drawing on images from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it asks how gestures once commonplace between male friends became so loaded, and what might happen if men felt freer to express their affection.
